Our Children

The nursery is arranged into 3 age groups, for under 2’s, 2-3 year olds and over 3 years.

With the free flow system in place, children can decide where they want to be and what they want to do; if that means staying outside most of the day then they can! There are always be activities on offer for the children to engage in, we offer a balance of adult and child led activities.

At all times, there is a member of staff present on site who is fully paediatric First Aid trained, and all staff are checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service as part of our recruitment processes.

We work to the following ratios in accordance with OFSTED:

  • 0-2 years, 1 adult to 3 children
  • 2-3 years, 1 adult to 4 children (working at a 1 adult to 5 children ratio when necessary)
  • 3-5 years, 1 adult to 8 children

How your child will be learning

Within the group, all the children are supported to develop their interests and learning at their
own pace. Our key worker system enables us to ensure an individual curriculum, tailored to
the needs of each child. Through developmentally appropriate play experiences and a high
level of adult input, we offer experiences that enable children to progress through the EYFS,
preparing them for the National curriculum, which begins at Year 1 in primary school.

The Early Years Framework

The EYFS framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their
development. Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating
their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.
Children often develop the 3 prime areas first. These are:
o Communication and language
o Physical development
o Personal, social and emotional development.
These prime areas are essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning. As
your child grows, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas.
o Literacy
o Mathematics
o Understanding the world
o Expressive arts and design

These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s development through activities suited to their
needs. It is designed to be flexible so that your child’s keyworker can follow your child’s current
interests, as well as adult-led learning, we focus on things which happen ‘in the moment’ and
children are encouraged to express what they would like to learn next.
